Day 4: She shall be called WOMAN!!
Hope for Your Marriage
So far in this series, we have established God’s authority, examined how he organized the earth and delved deep into the naming of things. Today, we will look at the roles of man and wife concerning the main points we laid out at the beginning:
God is the ultimate authority.
He gets to do whatever He pleases with His authority.
We must submit to that authority.
Marriage is one of the most beautiful institutions created. This horizontal exchange of love is an earthly representation of a spiritual reality that we get to live out. In calling Adam “Man,” God gave Adam no choice but to call his wife “Wo-man.” Therefore, there was no mistaking each person’s role within the union. Ultimately, as we see in Genesis 2:15, husbands are to be the providers, protectors and priests within their homes.
In turn, Eve was to be Adam’s helper. The position of helper is a strong one. Jesus sent a helper to us after his ascension into heaven in John 16:7. The helper of Christ is the Holy Spirit. A woman is called to be the helper within her marriage. God trusts women to do good in the hearts of their men.
“Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make for him a helper fit for him.’ ” -Genesis 2:18
Successful marriages require both individuals to surrender themselves. Surrendering to your spouse serves as a symbol of surrender unto the Lord. Ladies, being called "woman" has deeper implications than you may have originally thought. When we have been saved by grace, though at times it can be difficult, it should be our greatest desire to humbly serve our husbands. Ephesians 5:22-24 states, “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ, is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything."
Beauty, here's to being all that God has called you to be!
"The man said, 'This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called WOMAN, Because she was taken out of Man.' " -Genesis 2:23
